Burhan Karkoutli
Burhan Karkoutli was born in Damascus 1932 and died in 2003. He graduated from the College of Fine Arts in Cairo in 1952. He worked for a short time as a professor at the Faculty of Fine Arts at Damascus University, he travelled to Spain, Morocco, Mexico and Venezuela, and in each of those places, he participated in the art scene and in the activist movements. He eventually settled in Germany, where he lived until the end of his life. His black and white drawings contain human and animal characters painted in his distinctive style of simplistic shapes and shapes. He decorated these characters with decorations and patterns that filled the spaces between the thick black lines. His works are distributed across various media including posters, book covers and editorial illustrations.
